Akila is a cheerful young girl with many friends. She enjoys playing, dancing, and learning new things! Akila lives with her parents, aunt, uncle, and grandparents in a very small home. After Akila’s father lost his job in 2020 due to COVID-19 lockdowns, the family struggled financially. Akila’s grandparents often have to provide food for the family. Akila has a desire to learn and go to school, but her living conditions make it difficult to study. By coming alongside Akila through sponsorship, you can give her the opportunity to attend the Pakis Child Development Center where she can learn and play in a safe environment. Akila will receive holistic care from the loving staff at the center. Thank you for meeting Akila’s deepest physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and social needs through sponsorship!
Pakis Child Development Center
The Pakis Child Development Center partners with a local church to preach the Gospel to young people and make disciples. At the center, nutritious meals are provided for all of the children. The children also receive help with school tuition, school supplies and uniforms. Medical care is given to those in need. Additionally, the children are encouraged to attend Sunday School each week and are taught from the Bible at least twice a week.
Indonesia is a predominately Muslim country in Southeast Asia. Many work as farmers, but due to the uncertain climate it’s difficult for them to maintain their crops. Other common occupations include construction workers, freelancers, and house cleaners. Many of the families are poor and do not have the funds to pay for medical treatment. Multiple families have to live together in the same house a lot of the time. Many parents lack a formal education and get married young. Domestic violence is also prominent and husbands are prone to leave their families.
