When Alison was one month old, she had complications with her heart and suffered a stroke on the left side of her body. Her mother rushed her to a hospital and Alison survived. However, the stroke left her with mental health struggles she is facing still today. Her parents are day laborers, with no consistent income. Alison needs to attend therapy for her health, however, her parents can’t consistently afford it. With the support of a sponsor, Alison would receive the medical care and emotional support she needs from the staff at Las Vistas Child Development Center, while also hearing the true love of the gospel.
Las Vistas Child Development Center
The Las Vistas Child Development Center comes alongside families to help meet the needs of local children. Children are taught in school five days a week. Cooks at the center provide the children with delicious meals and they have access to safe drinking water. Children learn life skills at the center and receive counseling when needed. Additionally, the staff leads devotions each day and conducts Bible classes twice a week.
Guatemala is the most populated country in Central America. The majority religion is Christianity and is primarily Roman Catholic. Families in Guatemala suffer from many difficult circumstances such as drug use, alcoholism, physical violence, broken homes, and malnourishment. Often children are forced to begin working at an early age. Many families are extremely poor, live in small dilapidated homes and don’t make enough to provide for their physical needs.
