At AMG summer camps, all the “fun” serves a larger purpose. Camp activities are tools and settings to help connect Bible teaching to daily living. Children from AMG’s childcare centers in Guatemala come to Camp Canaan for a week and participate in spiritual and recreational activities to develop skills and abilities that will help them in the future. There are devotionals, Bible studies in small groups, educational activities, bonfires, crafts, swimming, other games, singing, and time for the campers to be alone with God. In a typical year, over 2,500 campers visit Camp Canaan and many have come to know Christ there.

Guatemala is the most populated country in Central America. The majority religion is Christianity and is primarily Roman Catholic. Families in Guatemala suffer from many difficult circumstances such as drug use, alcoholism, physical violence, broken homes, and malnourishment. Often children are forced to begin working at an early age. Many families are extremely poor, live in small dilapidated homes and don’t make enough to provide for their physical needs.
