Werner is a young boy living in a rural part of Guatemala. He lives with his parents and five sisters. They live in a small concrete block home that has a thin tin roof. Werner’s father is a farmer, but he only works during planting and harvesting season. The irregularity in his employment makes it hard to continually meet the needs of the family. While Werner loves school and really enjoys it, he faces pressure from his father to quit school and work on the farms with him. Your sponsorship of Werner will help him and his family to feel relief of the financial burden they feel now.
Guatemala is the most populated country in Central America. The majority religion is Christianity and is primarily Roman Catholic. Families in Guatemala suffer from many difficult circumstances such as drug use, alcoholism, physical violence, broken homes, and malnourishment. Often children are forced to begin working at an early age. Many families are extremely poor, live in small dilapidated homes and don’t make enough to provide for their physical needs.
