Shadhonpur Banskhali Child Development Center

The Shadhonpour Banskhali Child Development Center is located near the shore of the Bay of Bengal in Banskhali, Bangladesh. The area has monsoon rains from 4 to 6 months out of the year, and the area is often ravaged by storms. The village homes are made of mud, bamboo, and grass, with no running water, indoor toilet, or electricity. Cooking is done over a hole in the mud floor, laundry is done in a well, and most families grow vegetables at home as well. Missionaries engaging in relief efforts there organized Gunagori Baptist Church in 1991. In order for the church Sunday School and AWANA programs to continue to function, they realized the importance of education for young people. Students meet at the church from 2 to 4 hours a day in a classroom setting. Currently, there are around 300 students and 22 tutors in the tutor program. Support for this ministry that comes from sponsors helps pay for tutors, medical expenses, school uniforms, and a nutritious breakfast. Most importantly, children are learning about the love that Jesus has for them and are experiencing his grace through a caring staff.
