Sum - Ag Child Development Center

Sum Ag is the name of a community located on Negros Island, Philippines. Poor people in the community usually work as “cargadors,” which means they carry heavy objects from one place to another. They live in one-room shacks made of nipa and bamboo and they need constant repair. Malnutrition, tuberculosis, parasites, dysentery, typhoid fever, pneumonia, and anemia are rampant among the people. Prostitution and drug dealing have become means of earning money among teenagers and young adults. At the Sum Ag Childcare Center, children receive a nutritious snack each morning before preschool activities. The morning curriculum includes Bible stories, singing, memory work, and playtime. The childcare center is focused on winning lost souls to Christ and building up their faith in Christ through the means of a local church.
