Nolmer Antonio Gatica Montenegro

Nolmer is a boy in Guatemala who has experienced a lot of hurt in his short life. His father was a violent alcoholic and separated from his mother when he was young, taking two of Nolmer's brothers with him. Two of Nolmer's sisters left the family to pursue romantic relationships, and now Nolmer lives with one of his brothers, his mother and stepfather, and their child. They live in a neighbor's house with bamboo walls, a tin roof, and a dirt floor. They do not have access to electricity and depend on well water and wood to cook their food. Despite his circumstances, Nolmer finds joy in things such as coloring books and playing soccer. He wants to become a police officer when he grows up! His mother works as a maid and makes tortillas to sell while his stepfather works as a farmer. Their incomes are not enough to provide for all of Nolmer's needs.
