For many of us, 2020 was a year that we couldn’t put behind us fast enough, and I think we can all agree that we will never forget it. COVID-19 and the associated lockdowns and global suffering was an unprecedented event in our lifetime. Yet, amid chaos and tragedy, because of your help, we saw God working in incredible ways. Our partners around the world ministered to people who needed both practical and spiritual support, allowing God to restore hope that had been lost.
Last year, we had several natural disasters, which frequently happen, even though we don’t know when they will happen. Hurricanes Eta and Iota affected areas where we serve in Guatemala, and Typhoon Ulysses affected AMG staff and child and youth development centers in the Philippines. Your faithful support makes it possible for us to come alongside our partners in those countries to address these needs immediately when disaster hits. We know these events will occur again this year, and in subsequent years, and with your continued help, we will also come to the aid of those who are affected.
But the biggest disaster — an event no one could have predicted — was COVID-19. Around two million people have died to this point due to the coronavirus, more than 100 million are experiencing extreme poverty, and many more are suffering physically and emotionally. All of us are exhausted because of the pandemic. It has been mentally and emotionally taxing for each one of us in different ways.
Yet, like me, you may also be overwhelmed at God’s goodness, faithfulness, and provision in so many unexpected ways as you reflect on 2020. Because of your help, God has provided AMG’s ministry needs exceedingly and abundantly more than we could have imagined, and He produced plentiful fruit around the world.
In turn, this makes me very excited as I look to the future. I am filled with confidence as I reflect on how God has provided and blessed our ministries worldwide. I am convinced that if you and I continue to do our part and stay faithful to our calling and commitment to serving our Lord, seeking His direction and trusting Him, God will always protect us, provide for us and do incredible things to impact many more lives around the world.
Through COVID-19 and all the other disasters that take place, God has given us the privilege to show His love. 2020 was a year that revealed the impact of what you do through AMG to restore individuals and transform communities with the gospel and the love of Christ. Will you prayerfully continue to partner with us in 2021 as we seek to help those devastated by disasters such as COVID-19, hurricanes, floods, volcano eruptions or whatever else may come? Together we are meeting people’s most profound needs, and we can continue to make a difference in many thousands of lives.
