AMG International’s ministry in Lebanon is primarily focused on media evangelism, using social media as a tool to start conversations that would otherwise never be had in a mostly Muslim environment. But a recent devastating event changed how we carry out our ministry in Lebanon.

On August 4, 2020, an explosion destroyed much of Beirut. The explosion took more than 100 lives and left more than 1,000 injured. In total, more than 300,000 people have been affected by the explosion: shops, businesses and homes are just a few of the physical structures that were utterly destroyed by the blast.

The day following the catastrophe, AMG national leader Anthony Habib responded quickly as he and his team went to see the site of the explosion. He says, “It was horrific! Beirut was unrecognizable. Buildings were demolished, glass was everywhere on the streets, and many people in despair were seen just sitting in the rubble which was all that was left of their homes.”

As a team, they set up a tent in Achrafieh, one of the older districts in Beirut, and immediately started helping to distribute food, water and clothing to those in need. They also passed out Bibles and shared their faith with the hundreds of victims. Anthony says that many people were hurt and were asking, “Why did God allow this to happen?” Others were certain the massive explosion was a result of God’s judgment on them because they had not been faithful to Him and had not been following His commandments.

Our national leaders saw this as an opportunity to demonstrate the love of God to people in need and to share the gospel with many who would have not otherwise been receptive of the Good News. Our team in Lebanon is continuing to build relationships with many of the people they met while serving their physical needs following the blast.

Anthony has been coordinating with the Lebanese Army to better identify families who have been impacted by the sudden explosion and need help getting back on their feet. The AMG team has started visiting 80 families around Beirut, building relationships in hope of leading many to Christ — the only one who can bring true healing to their lives.

Please pray for our national leaders in Lebanon as they continue helping Beirut rebuild during the pandemic. If you would like to learn more about our ministry efforts in the region, you can visit our website at
