Ashlin is a kindhearted girl who loves playing soccer and dreams of being an actress one day. She lives with her grandparents in Guatemala. She used to reside with her parents, but because children at school often teased her due to her darker brown skin and vision problems her parents moved Ashlin out of the area to her grandparents’ home. Her grandparents pay all her expenses, but due to a loan they took out to purchase their land, they are unable to afford glasses for Ashlin that would address her vision problem. Ashlin talks to her parents and siblings by phone, but they do not visit due to travel costs. Her grandparents work hard but are unable to support her. With your help, Ashlin will receive much needed free medical assistance, nutritious meals, biblical teaching and an education. This will greatly help this struggling family. Thank you for making an impact on their lives.
Las Vistas Child Development Center
The Las Vistas Child Development Center comes alongside families to help meet the needs of local children. Children are taught in school five days a week. Cooks at the center provide the children with delicious meals and they have access to safe drinking water. Children learn life skills at the center and receive counseling when needed. Additionally, the staff leads devotions each day and conducts Bible classes twice a week.
Guatemala is the most populated country in Central America. The majority religion is Christianity and is primarily Roman Catholic. Families in Guatemala suffer from many difficult circumstances such as drug use, alcoholism, physical violence, broken homes, and malnourishment. Often children are forced to begin working at an early age. Many families are extremely poor, live in small dilapidated homes and don’t make enough to provide for their physical needs.
