Grand Bassin is located in the northeastern region of Haiti near the city of Cap-Haitien. Work is scarce in Haiti, leaving many without jobs. Some eke out a living by farming, and children are often needed to help in the fields. Parents are seldom able to afford the cost of school supplies or even school fees. It is common for teenager to be in the lower grades of elementary school. Pastor Rodné Romeus saw the great need in this community for a school. With AMG’s assistance, he was able to build a school starting with elementary grades. Each year for several years, he added another grade to the school. Sponsored children attend school where they also receive a hot lunch. Prayer and Bible study are an integral part of their daily formal education. AMG’s goal is to rescue these children from poverty and spiritual darkness and to teach the saving love of Jesus Christ.

Haiti is a mountainous nation in the Caribbean that shares a border with the Dominican Republic. Haiti is prone to droughts, floods, and hurricanes. The majority religion is Christianity, and over half of the population professes to be Catholic. Voodoo is also practiced by some as well. Unemployment is rampant throughout Haiti with little access to quality jobs. Families also struggle with alcoholism, malnutrition, and insufficient medical care. Because of the extreme poverty, parents struggle to pay for their children’s school fees and usually are not educated themselves.
