Thank you. Thank you for standing with AMG International throughout this season of unprecedented challenges brought on by the coronavirus and global economic hardships. While I know this season has been a great challenge for many of you, through your faithful prayers and the sharing of your financial resources, our ministry partners, throughout the 37 countries we work, have felt supported and encouraged by your generosity. You are a blessing to us, to our 400 plus national leaders and their teams, and to the people in need God has called AMG to serve and to minister.
One of those national leaders is Dr. Ohene Kumi who has been working with children for more than a decade. The discipleship program he runs reaches thousands of junior high students in hundreds of public schools through the teaching of a systematic Bible course, literature distribution, Vacation Bible School, and leadership training that lays a foundation for lifelong spiritual transformation. And the teachers and administrators at the schools couldn’t be more excited in seeing students demonstrate genuine concern for one another.
Ohene and his team of volunteer chaplains are leading children to Christ and discipling them in communities throughout Ghana, Togo, Liberia and Nigeria. This dedicated team is currently ministering to and discipling over 20,000 junior high students who are eager to learn the truth of Scripture. And, with your help, Ohene’s team is poised to grow this highly effective ministry to reach upwards of 25,000 students this year.
The public-school discipleship program the team developed, and employs, is an effective, high-impact, low-cost, scriptural program that changes lives. The volunteer chaplains patiently engage students with biblical truths. Through this program, eager students who are taught to study the Bible learn how to serve the Lord and others in their church, school and community.
Once a week, Ohene’s trained chaplains go into the public junior high schools to teach Bible lessons to the children. We are currently sharing the love of Jesus with students in 304 schools and are constantly adding more schools as we are able to train up additional chaplains. These teachers of God’s Word disciple students and equip them to share the good news of Jesus with their family and friends.
Ohene tells us, “The Lord, by His grace, is doing great and marvelous things as we reach out to the next generation by distributing free Bible courses in the public schools, training school chaplains, leading VBS and summer camp meetings, and through teen counseling and ongoing prayer. Our program is reaching thousands of teens for Christ. We also share the Jesus Film and plant churches in villages where none exist.”
In the first three quarters of 2019, Ohene and his dedicated team distributed 23,737 Explorers I and Best Friends I Bible Courses to junior high students grade 7 to 9. But many other students are waiting to start the program. One student recently wrote, “Your pastors came to our school and I received the Bible course. I have learned a lot about the love of God and now know what Jesus Christ did for me.” While we are seeing fantastic results, the growth of the program has been restrained by finances.
The parent of a participant shared, “My daughter brought home the Bible course from school and I happened to pick it up and read it. It is amazing as every page of the booklet helped me understand more about God and what he has done for all mankind. She came home the other day with a beautiful certificate, and I can’t wait to read the next booklet. Thank you for doing such a fantastic job with the children at the schools.”
While we have been able to reach many thousands of teens for Christ in West Africa, we can and must do more. One student writes, “Through the Bible course, I came to put my trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior, and I am very happy for the beautiful Bible I received.” Ohene would like to grow his ministry by 5,000 students this year, which is an achievable goal. Would you help us make that happen? In order to accomplish this, we need to purchase many more Bibles to distribute to students who complete our Bible courses free of charge. The cost to us is $4.50 per Bible. Ohene also needs additional funding to print and provide each student enrolled in the school discipleship program with a free copy of the Bible course booklets, which costs us $1.00 per set of 12 lessons.
Our goal is to raise $27,500 to expand this effective ministry to students in the coming days. Would you prayerfully consider joining us in this effort? Together, we can reach even more teens in West Africa for Christ. Thank you for your partnership.
