Juan Carlos is a boy in fourth grade. He has three brothers and lives with his family in a rural Guatemalan community. Juan’s father left the family, and his stepfather works as a cook in another country. He sends support for his wife and children and hopes to come back soon. The family lives in a house that has block walls, a cement and tin roof, and a cement floor. They pay monthly for water and electricity services, and meals are cooked over a fire. Juan likes school, and his favorite subject is communication. He would like to be an agronomist one day. Thank you for investing in Juan Carlos’ life and future!

Guatemala is the most populated country in Central America. The majority religion is Christianity and is primarily Roman Catholic. Families in Guatemala suffer from many difficult circumstances such as drug use, alcoholism, physical violence, broken homes, and malnourishment. Often children are forced to begin working at an early age. Many families are extremely poor, live in small dilapidated homes and don’t make enough to provide for their physical needs.
