Thanyamon is lovely girl who comes from a Hmong hill tribe family in Thailand. She has two brothers and three sisters. Her parents have only a sixth grade education. They are poor farmers who till government owned hillside land. Using rudimentary agricultural techniques, they grow rice to feed their family and corn to sell. Because their income is not enough to meet the needs of their family, they have gone into debt. They live in a one story house built of wood , bamboo and brick with a mud floor. Development in the area lags significantly behind the rest of the country. And, conditions are primitive with many families getting their water from hand-dug open wells. On top of that, drug trafficking and addiction, brought on in part by a lack of hope, is prevalent in the area. Thanyamon participates in AMG’s New Hope Child and Youth Development Center located in the remote Maecharim district of northern Thailand that is surrounded by hills, forests and fields. At New Hope, children receive nutritious meals, tutoring, and weekly Bible lessons that share the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The center places a strong emphasis on Christian values and principles that will prepare children in need for a brighter tomorrow. Thanyamon is an obedient, shy, humble and polite little girl. Her favorite subject is Mathematics, and she hopes to become a teacher one day. Your sponsorship will be a great encouragement to Thanyamon and her family.
Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country, and many people also believe in the spiritual realm. Children from poor families go to state-run schools where teaching is sub-standard. Their parents normally have little education and cannot be relied upon to help them. School children seldom reach the ninth grade and most end up working in family farms. Since the people have very low or no education, they lack basic knowledge of life skills like personal hygiene, household management, family planning and balancing budgets.
